Risk Factors, Screening, and Chemotherapy (Optimistic but Realistic Goals met)
This model run shows the combined effect on projected CRC mortality
through 2020 if all optimistic but realistic goals are met for risk factors,
screening, and chemotherapy.
- Risk factors considered in
the models are: smoking status, obesity, physical activity, fruit and
vegetable, intake, multivitamin use, red meat intake, aspirin/non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory use, postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
(females only).
- Screening tests included in the models are
Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) and Endoscopy (Sigmoidoscopy or Colonoscopy).
- Chemotherapy is modeled based on two assumptions:
in every case treated, the best currently available treatment
is used; and chemotherapy is given to all who would potentially
benefit from it.
